Peace

“Do not speak peace to yourself before God speaks peace to you.” - John Owen

I will readily admit that I know nothing of John Owen but that he was a puritan theologian and the language of his writing is complex. That's all. A facebook friend of mine had a status with a quote of his and when I looked that quote up and it led me to the quote you see posted above.

What do you think of this quote?

  1. This answers one of my questions on facebook.haha I think the quote has to do with forgiveness. I think sometimes we are to quick to assume that God has forgiven us for something we have done. We need to take the time out and ask God for forgiveness and talk to him about, but thats just my take.

  2. I think when I read that quote that it's telling us to know and trust the difference between a peace that comes from HIM and a peace we sometimes force/look for. Thoughts?

  3. I'd say that he is telling us not lie to ourselves. Sometimes, we find ourselves lost and not sure of what to do, so we hastily make a decision and claim to have peace about it. We don't want to look like we don't have it all together, so we're impatient and claim God's direction in our lives by a peace we've brought upon ourselves, not by God.
