During my trip, I realized that wherever you go you will make new family...
You will find those who comfort you and love you, those who will invite you into their home for a gourmet meal (to the best of their ability), those who will listen to you work through your problems over a cup of coffee... and those who will just, plain BE THERE.

It's a beautiful thing.
They hold faces and memories you will never let slip from your mind.
I also can't help but tell you, however, how wonderful it is to come home to the family that first claimed you as their own.
My family is so beautiful. My mom, dad and brother picked me up from the airport yesterday afternoon. My dad and brother instantly reached to help me with my luggage and when we got home my mom immediately grabbed a laundry basket to help me unload all of my stuff.
Less than five hours later, every article of clothing in my two suitcases was washed.
My mom had also prepared a special meal to celebrate my homecoming and my sister came over after work to join us. Lasagna, cheesy garlic bread and apple crisp. (Need I say more?)
They gave me my belated birthday presents and I shared my storehouse of Tanzanian photos with them.
I'm still just sitting here in disbelief that all of this is mine.
This family, this house, the filled racks of clothing in my closet, the cupboards full of food that I can choose from whenever I want. . . It's only been a few months but I guess I had put out of mind how easy and comfortable things are here. All in all, I'm glad to be home... for now. : )

It made me so happy to read this, Rachel. As soon as I started to read the last sentence...I just KNEW that the last little bit was coming!
ReplyDeleteI so agree with the thought about the families we make and encounter. Your family sounds wonderful and I'm so glad that you've enjoyed being home and reconnecting with them!
