It's Amazing

Not only do I like this song called "Amazing" by One Eskimo - (shared with me by my friend Luke) which has great instrumentals and enjoyable lyrics...

I really, really, really like kids. Yeah - probably not a big surprise since I am a teacher and all...
But I mean I really like them. I mean, they have the potential to make my day. Like today.

I have had the past five days off of work and I tell ya, I already don't know what I did before my part-time-job-days. I need things to do where I'm not just having fun - but actually helping someone in some way, shape, or form. Like tonight.

I have been baby-sitting - just for a couple hours - but I can tell you that my smile is already a bit more sincere and my outlook a bit brighter. "It's amazing." Maybe it is their smiling little cheeks, or the purity behind their eyes, maybe it is the way they have a tendency of pushing limits, or the way they actually want to play the same game over and over and over again... I don't know what it is... but they just fill me with so much authentic joy.

In other news, I can't wait to get back to work tomorrow. The club that I work at currently doesn't have any of the 'programs' up and running and since the club receives grant money for running said programs, it is now my job to get these programs going. So I am starting up five different programs, one for each day of the school week, that focus on a specific age or gender group or have a specific goal. For example, on Mondays, I will teach a program called "S.M.A.R.T. girls" (which is acronym for... well, for whatever it stands for) that is geared towards middle school girls and helping them develop healthy lifestyles. Or, on Thursdays, I will teach a program for high school students that come to the club on how to fill out applications and prepare for college and/or jobs.

I'm really excited that I get to do this because it will help me use some of my 'teacher knowledge' as well as allow me to get to know the students who are coming to the club in a smaller group setting (which is always my preference). So this week I will make sure things are ready for the programs to officially start up in November. :)

And, with all that said, I think I'm gonna go do some reading.
